This May, the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) Vietnam Wall returns to the Southeast Lawn of the Museum and Memorial. An 80 percent scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., the wall measures nearly 400 feet long.
The AVTT Vietnam Wall contains every name etched on the original memorial. Since its inception, hundreds of thousands of people across the U.S. have viewed the wall.
New this year, AVTT also will display the Cost of Freedom Tribute – smaller tribute panels honoring American sacrifices in conflicts through the 20th and 21st centuries, including WWI, WWII, 9-11, Afghanistan and Iraq.
The wall and tribute panels will be accessible to the public on the Southeast Lawn of the Museum and Memorial beginning in the afternoon of Thursday, May 19, 2022, followed by an opening ceremony at 6 p.m. It will remain in place through Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, 2022. The public is invited to view the wall for free at any time, day or night, with the exception of 7-11 p.m. on Sunday, May 29.
Volunteering
To accommodate visitors, we need volunteers to assist those paying tribute. From Thursday, May 19 - Monday, May 30, we are looking for over 300 volunteers. Individuals and groups are encouraged to sign up for shifts and lend your support!

On Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 27 – Monday, May 30, 2022, admission to the Museum and Memorial is free for veterans and active-duty military personnel, while general admission for the public is half-price all weekend.

A: Yes, Names can be looked up online at virtualwall.org.
Q: Can I make a rubbing of a name on the Wall?
A: Yes. You are welcome to use your own paper and a crayon or pencil. Virtual etchings are also available online when you look up a specific person.
Q: Are there any counseling services available?
A: Yes. The Department of Veterans Affairs is providing their Vet Center mobile unit for veterans and their families from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. every day.
Q: Are there any ceremonies related to the AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall?
A: An opening ceremony takes place on Thursday, May 19 at 6 p.m. and the closing ceremony is Monday, May 30 at 2 p.m.
Q: Can people leave items at the Wall?
A: Yes, people are welcome to leave items at the Wall. The Kansas City chapter of the Irreverent Warriors will collect these items every day. Anyone leaving items at the Wall should assume they will NOT be able to retrieve the items at a later date.
Q: Can people make a donation to AVTT or to the Museum?
A: Yes, there are donation boxes for AVTT located near the Wall. Donations to the Museum and Memorial can be made at the Information Tents.
