Celebrity chefs from four of Kansas City’s finest restaurants will compete in War Fare: Chow Challenge, a World War I-themed cooking competition, on Wednesday, April 30 in the Auditorium at the National World War I Museum.
Chefs from Affäre, Grünauer, Room 39 and Webster House will compete for the Chow Challenge Cup in an Iron Chef-style event and will provide free samples of World War I-related food. As the chefs display their culinary skills, noted culinary historian Andrea Broomfield will share the food history of World War I and how it not only changed the way we eat today, but should merit a second look for our current dinner tables.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. with a cash bar cocktail hour that includes a free World War I-themed amuse-bouche from each of the restaurants with the competition set to begin at 6:30 p.m.
The event is being held in conjunction with the debut of the Museum’s new online exhibition War Fare, which examines an often overlooked aspect of the Great War: food. The exhibition, which launches on April 30, will include the history behind some of the recipes of the era and serve some up with a modern twist.
